Fukushima Daiichi
On March 11, 2011, a 9.0 magnitude earthquake triggered a series of tsunamis off the Northeast Coast of Japan with only a few minutes warning. The waves, reaching altitudes over 40 feet, devastated the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, disrupting the plant's emergency systems and resulting in the largest accidental release of radiation into the ocean in history.
